Silicon calcium, also known as silicon calcium alloy. It belongs to the category of ferroalloys. The main chemical components are silicon and calcium. It also contains impurities such as iron, aluminum, carbon, sulfur, etc.
CaSi applications:
1.Deoxidizer: Calcium silicon is added to molten steel or cast iron during the steelmaking process to remove oxygen and other impurities. Deoxidization is essential to prevent the formation of oxides, which can weaken the metal's mechanical properties.
2.Desulfurizer: It also acts as a desulfurizing agent, reducing the sulfur content in steel and cast iron. High sulfur levels can cause brittleness and reduce the material's weldability, so removing sulfur is vital to ensure high-quality steel production.
3.Alloying agent: Calcium silicon serves as an alloying agent to improve the mechanical properties and performance of steel. It enhances strength, toughness, and corrosion resistance, making the resulting steel more suitable for various applications.
4.Nodularization of cast iron: When added to molten cast iron, calcium silicon promotes the formation of graphite nodules, converting gray cast iron into ductile cast iron (also known as nodular or spheroidal graphite iron). Ductile cast iron has better mechanical properties than gray cast iron, such as increased tensile strength and elongation.
5.Inoculant: In some cases, calcium silicon is used as an inoculant in the casting process to refine the microstructure of metals and improve their properties further.
